Peter Paetkau, violinist, is a founding member of the Boston-based chamber music collective Analog By Choice and a graduate of the Longy School of Music. As an orchestral, chamber, and solo musician, he has performed in venues from Carnegie Hall to private homes to concert halls across Canada, USA, Peru, and Europe.
Through his work with Analog By Choice, Paetkau has curated and performed in concerts highlighting often overlooked composers using alphabet-themed programming. His interest in giving audiences tools for actively listening to chamber music has translated into partnerships with storytellers, artists, videographers, and other creative mediums who provide the audience with entry points into the complexities of classical music. ABC has performed across New England and beyond bringing their unique concert style to audiences around the USA. In addition to their regularly scheduled season, ABC focuses on education and has developed highly acclaimed performances for youth that are interactive and engaging.
An avid chamber musician, Paetkau has been featured on programs such as From The Top, the John Kleshinski Concert Series, Fermata Chamber Soloists, and the Harvard Medical School Guest Artist series. He has been lucky enough to share the stage with members of the Neave Trio, Shanghai Quartet, Horszowski Trio, and the Boston Symphony Orchestra. As an orchestral musician, Paetkau is a regular member of ensembles including the Boston Modern Orchestra Project, Odyssey Opera Company, Cape Ann Symphony, Hollywood Film Orchestra, Boston Chamber Symphony, as well as Orchestra Without Borders and the Du Bois Orchestra where he holds principal positions. He has worked with conductors Anthony Parnther, Thomas Wilkens, Gil Rose, Yoishi Udagawa, Luca Anontucci, and Avlana Eisenberg among others.
Paetkau has also taught lessons both for groups and individuals over a wide range of abilities and ages and currently holds teaching positions at Nashua Community Music School, the New School of Music, and his private studio. Paetkau’s teachers have included Anna Williams of the Neave Trio, Bruce Coppock, Solomia Soroka, Rosalyn Trianno, and Jameson Cooper of the Euclid Quartet along with mentorship from Alexander Velinzon, Paula Tumeo, Soyoung Yoon, Roberto Cani, and Vladimir Landsman.
