In my first year of elementary school, many of my friends started taking violin lessons. This became the cool thing to do and I begged my mother for lessons. I had to wait a year.

In grade two, once it was established that I really meant it, I got my first violin. At the same time, most of those same friends had decided that violin was too hard and switched to piano. I asked to change too so I could fit in, but the rental fee had been paid and I was stuck.

I never minded practicing but it wasn’t my favorite thing in the early years. However, there was a friend of mine who was always placed in the group class above me. That lit a fire to want to improve, ideally past her level. A little healthy competition?

Over time, I came to love the violin and music itself and not just the competitive parts. Since then, I’ve traveled around the world with my violin, played in some amazing places from huge concert halls to living rooms, and been part of incredible music making with amazing musicians. I believe live music is capable of evoking deep emotions and powerful reactions. It’s my goal to make that music accessible to as many people as possible and to give them the tools to get as much as they can from it. I do this through performing, teaching, and my work with Analog By Choice. It’s a career that forces me to constantly evolve, improve, and adapt but also has given so many incredible experiences and a life immersed in some of the greatest music ever written. I look forward to sharing a piece of it with you.
